Thermoforming Basics
A thermoplastic sheet is heated to its correct forming temperature and then adapted over a dental model using vacuum or compressed-air pressure. The heated sheet stretches over the model anatomy and, after cooling, retains that form. The appliance is then removed from the model, trimmed to the required margins and finished. Good results depend on the correct material, heating program, model preparation, model position, forming method and adequate cooling before removal.
