A thermoformed splint is made by heating a thermoplastic sheet and adapting it over a physical model. A directly 3D-printed splint is manufactured from a digital design using a printable dental resin. The workflows use different materials and finishing methods. Thermoforming is established, fast and offers a broad material range, while direct printing offers a model-free digital manufacturing route.
