A transparent, tough material with good dimensional stability is normally preferred. Erkodur is widely used for conventional clear retainers because it provides a rigid, clear appliance. Erkodur-al is somewhat more flexible and can also be used for retention applications. Material thickness should be chosen according to required rigidity, occlusion, durability and patient comfort.
