Thicker occlusal splints are usually rough-cut with suitable rotary instruments, then shaped with appropriate carbide burs or similar cutting tools. Finishing instruments such as Lisko or Liskosil can be used to refine and smooth the margins. Avoid excessive pressure or heat, which can melt or distort thermoplastic material.
