Thermoforming Basics
Thermoforming is the overall process of heating a thermoplastic material and forming it over a model. Vacuum forming is one method of thermoforming. In vacuum forming, air is removed from beneath the model so atmospheric pressure draws the heated sheet closely onto it. Pressure forming is another thermoforming method, using positive compressed-air pressure from above. Both are forms of dental thermoforming.
