The actual heating and forming cycle usually takes only a few minutes. Total production time is longer because it also includes preparing the model, cooling the material, removing the formed sheet, trimming, finishing and any occlusal adjustment. Simple retainers can be completed relatively quickly, while thicker splints or more complex appliances require additional finishing and adjustment time.
